Please note that the surgery is not open on English Bank Holidays
We are also open for pre booked appointments only on Wednesdays and Thursdays 18.30 - 20.00, one Monday and one Friday per month 18.30 - 20.00 and one Saturday per month 09.00 - 12.00.
Our patients now have even more access to a doctor at weekends and in the evenings. We are part of a Neighbour Access Hub developed by Principal Medical Limited (PML) on behalf of Oxfordshire practices in 2015. The aims of the service remain the same; patients needing a pre-bookable GP appointment at their own practice, may be offered an appointment at a nearby practice, with a local GP or nurse who has access to their medical records. This provides more appointments for patients during the day, the evenings and at weekends, while relieving GP practices of some of the pressure of providing treatment for minor illnesses.
What does this mean for you?
- No change in the booking process for appointments.
- You may be offered an appointment during normal or extended hours at a Hub location which for our Practice is:
Weekday Evenings Monday to Friday 18.30 - 20.00 operated in either Didcot, Wantage or Faringdon
Saturday Mornings 09.00 - 14.00 operated in Didcot
We can provide up-to-date information on times and locations of available appointments.
Making more time available at the Surgery means that we will be able to put more focus into preventive care, offering longer appointments and concentrated treatment for patients with long-term conditions and complex needs.

If you require medical help you have a choice.
If you wish to speak to an emergency doctor, telephone NHS 111 or if this fails to connect 0845 345 8995.
The 111 service will then decide the best course of action.
A recorded telephone message provides this information when the surgery is closed.
On weekdays between the hours of 18:30 and 08:00, and all day and night at weekends and bank holidays, services are commissioned by the Oxfordshire Clinical Commissioning Group with call handling provided by South Central Ambulance Service.
Out-of-hours services are generally busy so please think carefully before asking to see a doctor and only do so if you genuinely cannot wait until the surgery re-opens.
Newbury Street Practice Busy/Quieter Times
We thought it may be useful to put together a guide for patients so we can give you a better idea of our very busy periods and when to ring in. This is just a guide and we hope will make it easier for patients to decide on a time to call in to speak to reception, a secretary or a GP.
Mondays are obviously our busiest day. Unless you need to speak to a clinician on a Monday I would advise choosing another day in the week to call. Obviously if you need to speak to us then please ring but be aware lines are frequently busy and you may be held in a queue until we can answer your call.
Ringing for results – ideally call after 12pm. Obviously if this is not convenient for you then call us earlier but try to avoid before 10.30am as phone lines are particularly busy.
Referrals – if you need to speak to someone regarding a referral then please ring reception on the usual number and ask to speak to the secretary. They will put you through to the secretaries’ phone. If the secretary is not there they have an answer machine which is always on so be prepared to leave a message with your name, date of birth and contact number. The secretary will then contact you when the message is picked up.
Enquiries re notes or Insurance Reports – Admin deal with these and we work Mon-Fri 8.30-3.30
Dispensary – please ring 01235 763451 and press option 3, they have an answer machine which is always on, please leave a message with name, date of birth and contact number they will get back to you. Please be aware they do not take repeat requests over the phone. You can email requests for medication to dispensary on firstname.lastname@example.org
Online Access to Notes – Please ring reception and ask to speak to Vanessa if you would like to register for online access to your notes. Vanessa works Mon–Fri 9am-3pm
I hope this helps when you are deciding to call into the surgery for advice or information and the best times to do so.
